Our organization thoughtfully reviewed the existing discharge summary templates for obstetric patients and optimized them to include robust information about the hospital course utilizing SmartLinks to populate data from the delivery summary and Clinical Evaluation Rules to prompt documentation of the most commonly missed diagnoses. With the primary goal being reduction of coding queries to individual providers, this work has created a clearer picture of a patient’s course of treatment and allowed for more accurate coding/billing.
