Dr. Dean Miner is Associate Chief Medical Information Officer, Ambulatory for East Carolina University (ECU) Health System. Dean is a Certified Epic Physician Builder whose current responsibilities include optimizing ambulatory workflows and discrete data capture to improve care team satisfaction, efficiency, population health management and revenue capture in the outpatient setting. Dr. Miner also has multi-year experience in the management of the MyChart Patient Portal along with clinical outreach related to Care Everywhere. Dr. Miner’s work as a Physician Champion and Physician Builder has included the creation of decision support enabled Standardized Clinical Documentation Systems for General Pediatrics, General Internal Medicine, Behavioral Health, Endocrinology, Pulmonary Medicine, Family Medicine and OB/GYN, among other sub-specialty areas. He has also worked extensively on health system policy regarding confidentiality management for minors, and has assisted in the construction of proxy management policies for the patient portal, among other responsibilities. A triple board certified physician in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Clinical Informatics, Dr. Miner has been working in the arena of Clinical Informatics since 2007. Dr. Miner served for 4 years on Epic’s Care Everywhere International Governing Council, and he is now also serving his 8th year on the Epic General Pediatric Steering Committee. While serving on the Epic General Pediatric Steering Committee, Dr. Miner helped lead an effort to author a White Paper on Adolescent Confidentiality Management which is published on Epic’s User Web. Dr. Miner has also served on the American Board of Pediatrics Informatics Advisory Committee. Past leadership experiences and honors include: Med-Peds Residency Program Director at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, 1997-2004, Past President of the Medicine-Pediatric Program Director’s Association, -1999-2001, Recipient of Birmingham, Alabama Top 10 Pediatrician Award 2005 and 2006, Recipient of N.C. Peer selected “Top Doctor” Awards 2009-2018, Medicine –Pediatric Chief Resident – Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas- 1997, and Pediatric Chief Resident –Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas – 1997.
