Dr. Higdon is a board-certified family physician who graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996 and the Family Medicine Residency at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1999. He also completed a Family Medicine Faculty Development Fellowship at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2002. Prior to joining Novant Health in 2014, Dr. Higdon spent 25 years in the United States Army rising to the rank of colonel. During his military career he completed two combat tours serving as a helicopter pilot and brigade surgeon. He was a former family medicine program director, director of graduate medical education and hospital commander (CEO equivalent) with more than 25 years of academic experience. His interests include physician leadership, practice management, hospital administration and work-life balance. He currently serves as the vice president of medical education at Novant Health in Charlotte, NC where he is honored to also serve as the Associate Dean for the University of North Carolina School of Medicine Novant Health Charlotte Campus, the program director for the Novant Health Family Medicine Residency and Executive sponsor for the Veteran’s Business Resource Group.
