In the fast-paced environment of the emergency department (ED), the transition of patients to an inpatient (IP) level of care is challenging and requires precise and thorough documentation. Challenges include difficulty in finding necessary documentation, knowledge deficit related to inpatient requirements, and hesitancy to utilize IP tools. Our team incorporated specific IP tools seamlessly into existing ED workflows to provide staff with a simplified way to view admission and shift requirements, quickly access the Care Plan and Education activities, complete required flowsheet items directly in the ED Narrator, and access the Brain. Training was completed by ED nurse educators.
