Over the course of the last 1.5 years, we have worked with multiple ISD teams (Healthy Planet, Reporting, Beacon) to develop a method of identifying Oncology Surgeons and then adding these surgeons to a patient care team. In order to first identify the surgeons, unique datalinks were required as a foundation. These included the Name of Provider, Procedure, Procedure Date and the patient diagnosis. These served as the foundation in finding a match to confirm that a patient had cancer surgery. We then used this to create a Care Team Auto-Add rule, that placed providers on the patient care team with a role of Oncology Surgeon, along with their unique specialty. This logic was used in the creation of an Oncology Surgical attribution rule, which then ties the providers to 2 different quality measures (Staging and Advance Care Planning). This was a very unique project, as this attribution was unique and quite involved with the numerous provider specialties. This now rounds out the tracking of performance for all 3 oncology specialties now at UNC: General Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and now Surgical Oncology.
