Results Routing configuration is essential as it determines the expected recipient of a new patient result. While it offers flexibility, it has sometimes led to issues within various organizations across the Epic community, particularly in delivering and acting on patient results. At Atrium Health, we encountered a situation where results were dropping into error pools when they couldn't reach the intended recipient—this could occur for various reasons such as if a user record was inactive or a pool was inactive. Unfortunately, due to improper management of these pools, the number of results in error pools ballooned to an unmanageable level. As a result, we had to devise a system-wide solution to tackle this issue effectively. Our strategy revolves around the Results Routing Error pool, which serves as the primary mechanism to review results that haven't been successfully routed to the expected recipient. We implemented a process for the daily management of the error pool. By ensuring that these results are reviewed promptly, we can identify and rectify any system build issues to ensure results reach the correct person.
