This session describes three use cases for how ECU Health has leveraged the power of CER rules to drive adaptive and context-specific documentation within Epic. We share use cases ranging from using CER rules to simplify and standardize ED provider note templates system-wide, using CER rule logic to assess for and trigger non-interruptive prompts at the point of note writing for comorbidity capture in the inpatient setting, and use of CER rules to facilitate social determinants of health (SDOH) data capture. We share our experience identifying workflows where CER rules can assist with documentation, and lessons learned about testing, validation, and design of the end-user tools that are driven by CER rule logic.
