UNC Health was uniquely positioned in the fall of 2023 to integrate two of Nuance’s DAX ambient dictation products. My presentation will come from the analyst's point of view but also include feedback from the provider side. The presentation will define the two DAX products in use under the UNC Health Care System, DAX Full Service, in use by ~12 providers at Appalachian Regional Healthcare System, and DAX Copilot, a pre-release Epic embedded version utilizing Haiku with ~35 UNC providers. While both products are AI-powered by Microsoft, I will review the functionality and my opinions of the use cases for each product. Once the products have been introduced and outlined, we’ll review our specific steps and experiences implementing both products technically and operationally. Each implementation was conducted separately with varying resources and two individual projects. Finally, we will review our providers’ feedback to highlight needed areas of development, challenges, and successes of both products. Permission and presentation material will be reviewed and approved by Epic and Nuance. Both have given the green light to propose the presentation.
